How To Have The Best Jab

There’s the old boxing saying, a good right hand will take you around the block and a good jab will take you around the world.

Definitely the most important punch in boxing, where all of your attacks begin and also a great form of defence, lets look at the ten best ways to perfect your jab

Step One

Turn your wrist right at the last second, this is known to add 20 percent more power into the punch. So when the punch lands make sure you only turn the wrist at the last second so your palm is down.

Step Two

When you throw any punch your muscles should be completely relaxed and just before the impact of the punch you need to become tense. Relaxed arms make sure the punch goes out faster and tensing at the last second creates a big thud which causes the knockout. If you see any professional hit the pads even when they just tap, it makes a big whack, that’s because they have got this technique down to a tee.

Step Three

Twist your glove right at the last second to cause a cut on impact. Sounds horrible but the friction causes a cut if you twist your glove in your opponents face.

Step Four

Sometimes you don’t even need to move your feet, if your opponent is in perfect range just throw a quick jab on the spot.

Step Five

If your opponent is just out of range then step in with your jab this is a power jab.

Step Six

When you snap the jab out, do not transfer your weight onto your front foot. The main aim of the jab is to set the right hand up. If your weight transfers forward you will not have as much power in the right hand.

Step Seven

Keep your non punching hand tight on your jaw so you are less susceptible to getting caught with a counter.

Step Eight

When you throw the jab really push yourself on the speed of the jab, try to make your jab go out at one hundred miles an hour and then get the jab back at one hundred miles an hour.

Step Nine

The further you can stretch your arm out the more power you will get in your jab. So get used to punching through the target. If you want to kick a football far you have to push your foot all the way through the ball do the same with your jab.

Step Ten

Not only straighten your arm through the punch but put your shoulder through the punch you get extra reach and much extra power. An additional benefit of the you protect your chin more when you punch.
